Faith, Civic Life, and Media: Information Skills for Community Leaders

Faith, Civic Life, and Media: Information Skills for Community Leaders Online

Our media landscapes and information ecosystems are increasingly complex and polarized spaces. And locating factual information or engaging in civil conversations online can feel more difficult than ever. To tackle these challenges, The Carter Center has developed a series of resources on media literacy skills to empower people to better navigate complex media landscapes. This training session is directed toward clergy and community leaders who facilitate relationships across neighborhoods every day.

Join us for an interactive training on Saturday, April 13 where we will explore how leaders can better understand how our information landscapes impact communities. You will learn skills to help you better understand the role of mis/disinformation in our communities, navigate complicated media and faith environments, and encourage and lead civil and productive conversations. You will learn how to share these resources with others, facilitate your own learning experiences, and equip others to manage our increasingly complex and polarized society.

Workshop Hosts:

Sarah Morris, MA, MSIS, is an academic librarian and educator based in Atlanta, GA. Sarah has held positions at Emory University and the University of Texas at Austin and has worked with The Carter Center on media literacy projects for around 2 years.

Brady Alan Beard, PhD, is an academic librarian and theological educator at Pitts Theology Library, Candler School of Theology. He teaches information literacy skills to seminarians and faith leaders in classrooms and one-on-one sessions.
